Book Club
Our members have organised two book clubs, one meeting in the morning and another in the evening. Meetings are held in various members’ homes. We take turns leading the discussions. New members are warmly welcomed. To RSVP and for directions to the next discussion please contact the current leader of either the morning of evening book club (or both) as listed in the Bon Accord newsletter. Hope to see you there!
Bridge
Bridge is held each Monday morning and rotates from home to home. We play all year round and we have FUN. Love to have you no matter how good or bad you play!!!
Bunko
We generally meet one evening a month We take turns hosting and bringing some good food. We always have fun!
Culinary Caravan
This is an evening group that gets together monthly at different restaurants. Good fun, good food! A terrific opportunity to introduce your partner to other members and partners and to check out a new restaurant or two. Join our e-mail list to receive an invitation to this month’s dinner!
Discover Aberdeen
We love to discover new gems in and around Aberdeen. If you are interested in exploring castle towers and their gardens, shopping in quaint gift shops, lunching on local cuisine, ferreting out antiques, or visiting historical points of interest, this is the group for you. Read more about our monthly trips in the AWA's monthly newsletter.
Explorers
The Explorers usually walk between 7-10 miles once a month. We have some good climbs but sometimes it is just the distance. If we chose a shorter walk or get done faster than expected we will have lunch somewhere. Most of the time we pack our own lunch and chose a spot with a great view!! The position requires picking a walk from the books or maps and sending out e-mails to everyone that signed up.
Golf
The main objective of the group is to offer group lessons for beginning players and to try to introduce golfers in the AWA so they can get together and play. The most important quality for the game is persistence (and the ability to keep smiling)! You will only improve if you play, play, play....and Scotland offers some beautiful courses full of nine hole and 18 hole challenges for all levels of play.
Mah-Jong
Come join our carefree group for a fun afternoon of tile tossing. We meet one day a week. We have a group email. If you wish to receive our weekly meeting information, send an email to the leader and you will be include in the group mail out. We are an informal group that welcomes beginners.
Moms and Tots
AWA M&T is currently meeting once a week at a hostess house for light snacks, playtime for the tots, and supportive "Mummy talk!" Occasionally we meet during the week at parks and indoor play centers around town. We will vote on our weekly time at the beginning of next year, so if you are interested in joining please contact us so that we pick a time that includes as many as possible! We always welcome new Mom and Tots and expecting mothers to join in the fun!
Photos, Memories, Scrapbooking (PMS Club)
This
group normally meets twice a month at members' houses. There will be at
least four photography sessions/outings in the year and then
participate in practical ways of recording those memories using digital
and hybrid papercrafts.
Stitchin' Chicks
The Stitchin' Chicks meet Thursday mornings. We do any kind of needlework: quilting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, cross-stitch, embroidery.
Scrap & Flap
Scrap & Flap usually meets once or twice a month. Location to be determined.
Tennis
AWA members interested in playing tennis as singles and doubles. Weekly intermediate/advanced doubles games are organized at a local venue. A few times each year information about tennis events in Aberdeen and other tennis-related information is provided.
Tours and Outings
All AWA members who have registered at our Yahoo group receive regular e-mails regarding tours, outings and other activities. Last year’s tours included trips to Copenhagen and Verona. Other outings have included a Stonehaven boat trip and rowing classes.
Walkabouts
Walkabouts is a pretty casual group of women who just want to get out and walk/hike (not climb) for a couple of hours and then off to lunch in a nearby pub or local funky restaurant near our walk location. We meet a couple times each month and walk anywhere from 3 to 6 miles, usually easy or moderate rating. Details of the walk’s difficulty are usually sent along with the email for the walk but everyone needs to evaluate their own health and ability and make decisions based on that. You will also need to be prepared for wind, rain, snow and sun, so Walking for Wussie essentials are: a good sense of humour, walking boots and practical clothes. We ALL participate in making the group work (no one person is in charge). Everyone pitches in and plans walks/hikes and sends out the details to the group on their assigned day to plan a walk.
